Similarities between Moses and Muhammad: their lives and prophethood

Without a doubt the Bible tells of coming of a prophet, after Jesus and Moses (pbut), who has been described in detailed. There are many characteristics of this prophet which are foretold in the Bible; a man who Jesus (pbuh) called to be ManAhma (or Munahama), meaning the Praised Worthy or Trust worthy one. One of the most important

features of this Prophet is revealed in Biblical book of Deuteronomy 18 verse18, were God informs Moses that:

I will raise up for them a prophet like onto you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth and he will tell them everything I command him, I will required it of him.” (Deuteronomy 18:18)

The Bible clearly demands that those who believe in the message if Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them) are required to believe in him (“That Prophet”) and also believe in the continuation of the same divine message preached by him.

Once we study the evidences of That Prophet it becomes quite clear to any wise and thoughtful person that he was no other than prophet Muhammad – whose name precisely means Most Praiseworthy and were given the title of Most Trusted by his companions – (God’s peace and blessings be upon him).

According to Deuteronomy 18:18, prophet Muhammad should be “like onto Moses.” When we review the life of Muhammad and Moses, we find striking similarities between the these two great men. So it is appropriate to analyze the similarities between Muhammad and Moses, and I listed them below (if anyone knows of more please share with us in the comment section):

  1. Moses and Muhammad both had natural births.
  2. Moses and Muhammad were both brought up by other than their parents.
  3. Moses and Muhammad both came from noble families.
  4. Moses and Muhammad were both Shepherds.
  5. Muhammad received the God’s revelation at age of forty while Moses stayed as a shepherd for forty years before becoming a prophet.
  6. Moses and Muhammad were rejected first and then accepted as prophets of God and statesmen by the masses of oppressed people and eventually some of their enemies.
  7. Moses and Muhammad both brought many people out of idolatry to worshiping of the One God – the unseen Creator.
  8. Moses and Muhammad both spoke firmly about the God of Abraham, demanding their followers to believe in Him.
  9. Moses and Muhammad were both given divine and comprehensive law and codes of life.
  10. Moses and Muhammad both migrated from their dwelling cities by the command of God.
  11. Moses and Muhammad and their followers were exiled from their home, following conspiracies to assassinate them.
  12. They both encountered their enemies and, by the will of God, were victorious in miraculous ways.
  13. Moses and Muhammad both returned to their cities and communities with grace and help of God.
  14. Moses and Muhammad both passed away from natural causes.
